Chamber groups Spring 2026

Welcome to Chamber Music at Opus!

“Chamber music” refers to the centuries-old tradition of playing classical music in small groups, usually between 2 and 8 players. Chamber music groups are member-led, rather than having a conductor like an orchestra. Playing chamber music is one of the best ways to develop confidence and independence on an instrument while still sharing the stage with peers. It also aids in strengthening note-reading, rhythm, and other musicianship skills. Most of all, chamber music’s collaborative nature fosters creativity and open communication, often leading to deep and lasting friendships.

At Opus, chamber music is open to intermediate to advanced students 12+, NYSSMA Level 3 or Suzuki book 3 and beyond. Students must currently have a private instructor. Our faculty sorts students into well-matched groups after hearing placement auditions, but pre-formed groups are also encouraged to enroll. Groups meet once a week with their assigned faculty coach, at a time decided upon mutually by all members. After an 8-week session, ensembles have the opportunity to perform publicly alongside other Opus chamber music groups. Pre-formed groups are welcome!
