Course Description:
This course will review concepts from Opus Music Makers Level 1 (previous course not required), and students will further their musicianship skills. In the fall semester, it will focus on continuing to develop the singing voice, incorporating solfège (“so” and “mi”) and will introduce students to sing, read, and write on the staff with beginning notes and rhythms (quarter note, eighth notes and quarter rest). In the winter/spring semester, this course will continue to incorporate the notes and rhythms from the fall semester and add the solfège notes (“la” and “do”) and rhythms of sixteenth notes, half notes and the use of ties. The students will also learn 2/4 meter and associated terms, as well as the repeat sign. They will also learn musical terminology and utilize musical materials, classroom instruments, and body percussion with an array of songs and instrumental pieces in varying meters, tempos, and keys to continue the development of their musicianship skills. Come experience the joy of making music in this class!
