Improvisation Camp
for Strings, Piano and Flute

Musical improvisation is one of the ways humans can learn to express their innate creativity. At this camp, students will improvise using exercises and games. They will develop a sense of freedom and virtuosity making music in many styles, playing over different chord progressions. This camp will focus on the foundation of bass lines in supporting expressive melodies and rhythms. Time will be split between indoor and outdoor activities.

Session 1 (Ages 8-11) 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Session 2 (Ages 12-17) 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM

$210/student, scholarships available.

Morning Session: 9:30 am – 12:00 pm
Ages 8-11, whether you are a beginner or an experienced improviser. The camp will focus on building foundations for playing melodies, rhythms, gestures and moods. Improvisation games develop important musicianship skills and are a lot of fun! We will even improvise the soundtrack to a silent film!
Afternoon: 1:00 pm – 3:30pm
Ages 12-17. Musical improvisation is one of the main ways people learn to express their innate creativity. At this camp, students will improvise using collaborative exercises and games in an atmosphere of theres no such thing as a mistake”. They will learn to solo confidently as well as play in a group setting over different chord progressions in different styles. Time will be split between indoor and outdoor activities.

Opus Ithaca Camp Refund Policy:

2 weeks + prior to the camp start date— If for some reason a student needs to withdraw registration from camp, Opus Ithaca will refund half of the price of the camp.

Under 2 weeks to start of camp— No refunds can be given.
