Piano instruction
Kevin hails from North Carolina and has followed a long and winding road to New York where he is happy to be a part of the warm and energetic music and cultural scene in Ithaca and beyond. He has been teaching privately since 2004 and has helped students of all ages and skill levels grow as musicians and music appreciators. As a performer he has played regularly in countless small jazz ensembles as well as big bands including the Glenn Miller Orchestra, The Piedmont Triad Jazz Orchestra, and has had an original composition performed by the Purchase College Jazz Orchestra. Kevin holds a master’s degree from SUNY Purchase where he studied primarily with Adam Birnbaum and learned from other jazz greats such as Jon Faddis, Kenny Washington, Andy Farber, and more. In addition to the Jazz Studies program, Kevin was also on a parallel track in the Studio Composition department where he learned both traditional and modern skills for music composition and production from teachers such as Harry Stafylakis, Henry Hey, Howie Kenty, and Peter Denenberg. Along with a traditional approach to music, Kevin is also experienced with music software such as Ableton Live and Logic Pro.
