Elizabeth Lyon

Cello instruction

Elizabeth Lyon is a performer and teacher on modern and historical cellos and a historical musicologist. Currently a PhD candidate at Cornell University, Elizabeth is completing a dissertation entitled, “Theorizing Music as Spiritual Practice: Perspectives from Augustine to Tinctoris.” She also teaches cello and chamber for credit at Cornell, and has directed the Cornell Baroque Orchestra. Elizabeth holds degrees from Columbia University and The Juilliard School, where she completed the Barnard-Columbia-Juilliard joint degree program with a BA in Classical Studies and MM in violoncello. Her cello teachers have included Bonnie Hampton, Joel Krosnick, and Phoebe Carrai.

Elizabeth enjoys teaching cello to students of all ages and abilities as well as coaching chamber music. She is thrilled to have joined the faculty at Opus Ithaca this past summer.
