Guitar & Jazz
Gabe became hooked on jazz as a middle school student when he was given the quintessential Wes Montgomery album, The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery. He quickly gained national recognition when he performed in Miami as a member of the 2009 NFAA Young Arts Program, and received a Silver Award. As a result of his success in Miami, he was invited to give a second NFAA YoungArts performance in New York City. Gabe received his second Down Beat Magazine award in 2010 as an “Outstanding Soloist.” In 2014, won first place in the 2014 Wilson Center Guitar Competition in the jazz category. Most recently, he was the recipient of the 2015 “Best Studio Orchestra Arrangement” Award from Downbeat. Gabe released his debut album, “I’ve Never Been in Love Before”, at the 2015 Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival. This album contains a wide variety of arrangements which feature Gabe on both guitar and vocals. The album has received rave reviews in Rochester and can be heard often on local jazz radio station, WGMC Jazz 90.1. In May 2015, Gabe Condon graduated from Eastman School of Music, with a Master’s of Music degree in Jazz Studies & Contemporary Media, Jazz Composition. He also has his Bachelor’s degree from Eastman in Jazz Guitar. Currently, he is a freelance performer and composer.
Currently, Gabe is an artist-instructor for the Broome-Tioga BOCES Arts in Education Program. Through this program, he works with music students in the public schools of Broome and Tioga Counties. He also is an instructor of jazz and guitar at Opus Ithaca in Ithaca, New York.
