This beginner course builds the foundation for musicianship skills and musical literacy for students prior to or beginning private music lessons. It will focus on developing the singing voice, matching pitch, internalizing the beat, and experiencing musical comparatives such as: high vs. low, fast vs. slow, long vs. short, swaying (6/8) vs. marching (4/4) beats, and more. It will prepare students for reading and writing notes and rhythms through listening, visual representation, and kinesthetic movement. Utilizing musical materials, classroom instruments, and body percussion, students will learn an array of songs and instrumental pieces in varying meters, tempos, and keys to guide the development of their musicianship skills. Come experience the joy of music making in Kodály class!
