Kodály Musicianship Course Level Five
This course will review concepts from previous Kodály levels, and expands to advance musicianship skills. It will focus on singing and aural skills through solfège in major, natural minor, harmonic minor, melodic minor, and chromatic scales. Students will sing and sight-read a variety of songs, rounds, partner-songs, and incorporate melodic and rhythmic ostinati (repeated patterns). This course will advance music literacy skills by incorporating known rhythms and learning new syncopated rhythms utilizing different combinations of quarter notes, dotted quarter notes, eighth notes, dotted eighth notes, sixteenth notes, half notes, dotted half notes, and whole notes. Students will read, write, compose, and improvise, with these notes and rhythms in a variety of keys and meters. This course will review and cover different conducting patterns, music terminology and different forms of music, composers, historical musical periods and genres. Utilizing musical materials, classroom instruments, and body percussion, students will learn an array of songs and instrumental pieces to further the development of their musicianship skills.
