Off the Page and Out of the Box
We will do free improvisation in an atmosphere of “there’s no such thing as a mistake.” We will use all the building blocks of music to create our own music. Even if you have never done this, we will do musical experiments, play blues, funk, and jazz charts, and learn to improvise with them. We will explore ways to improvise a soundtrack to a silent movie. We will improvise using rhythms, melodies, passacaglia, bass lines, and more!
Dates: August 7-11, 2:00-5:00PM
For musicians ages 11-17 who play piano, violin, viola, cello, bass and flute who are ready to play in more than one key.
Dr. Sera Smolen and Jessica Caporizzo will be leading this Creative Ability Development and Musical Improvisation camp at the Opus Ithaca School of Music.
We will have a supervised break to reboot and refresh. Please bring your musical instrument (pianos are at Opus).
